This is the confrontation we have wanted since July, and it’s finally here. The Rockets and Warriors will meet in the finals of the Western Conference, with a trip to the NBA Finals on the line.
Stephen Curry is officially back from injury while the reigning champions are looking to move a Houston team led by James Harden and Chris Paul, who has won 65 regular season wins. Yes, this is the most convincing series we could have hoped for.
We all know the stars, but the support molds will be huge in this series. Curry and Paul can go for it while Harden and Klay Thompson do the same, and these games are going to be won around the perimeter. However, there are some very low X factors that could make the battle in the painting a convincing part of this series.
It seems that the whole season has led to this. Both teams have been among the best in the NBA. It’s going to be a fight.

Rockets win if …
They continue to shoot as the NBA’s best shooting team and Harden plays as the best player in the series. The question of playing Warriors is that you have to work very hard to track your score. The Rockets are perhaps the only team in the NBA legitimately equipped to do it. With Paul, Harden and Ariza, they have three men who can shoot, with the facilitation of Paul’s offense. They will also need to temper the undetermined impact of Green for the Warriors, who have spent a lot of time facilitating for Golden State this post-season, and doing what the Pelicans could not and finding a solution for Durant.
Warriors win if …
You can go home at the beginning of this series. With 15 consecutive wins at Oracle, the Warrior crowd has a cascading race mode. Pelicans have learned it first hand. Golden State must also continue to dominate the third quarter. This team is the best team in the third quarter of the NBA, and this must continue. The final key is to keep Harden off the line. All teams are frustrated with Harden’s pitching attempt numbers, so Green and, to a lesser extent, Durant are responsible for limiting it. Thompson keeping Harden on the perimeter will be a big part of this series.
According to SportsLine data scientist Stephen Oh, the Warriors have a chance to win the 66.7% series. SportsLine will have game-by-game tips for each playoff series here.
